As a member of Brighton and Hove City Council's planning committee, I am unable to comment on much of Adam Trimingham's article (The Argus, April 7).

But I must respond to what Adam writes about all those empty properties above shops.

"Look up," says Adam - well, I wish a few landlords would. Maybe some of them would realise there are big bucks to be made renting out their empty rooms above.

Deals can be struck with the council - or registered social landlords - bringing in sizeable up-front cheques.

If you're using them as stock rooms, stop it. Keep your stock at the wholesaler until you need it.

By doing that, you will also be keeping your money in your bank and not theirs.
