Kevin Innes smashed 92 and new signing Luke Wright an unbeaten 82 to lead Sussex to a thrilling one wicket win over Nottinghamshire.

Sussex, set a challenging 366 in the 50-overs-a-side friendly at Hove, looked out of contention when reduced to 174-8.

But Innes and Wright then added 131 in only 12 overs, with Innes firing six sixes and ten fours from just 52 balls before falling to Greg Smith.

Last man Mohammad Akram joined Wright to see Sussex home, with one over remaining, the pair adding 64, although Notts nearly snatched victory with four needed when Wright was dropped by Samit Patel on the mid-wicket boundary off Paul Franks.

Former Leicestershire man Wright hammered seven fours and four sixes in scoring his runs off 59 balls and Sussex, for whom opener Ian Ward earlier made 51, dramatically clinched victory after Richard Hodgkinson (4-76) had looked to have put Notts firmly in control.

Kevin Pietersen and Darren Bicknell earlier struck centuries and shared a third wicket stand of 242 as Notts amassed 365-3.

The South African-born Pietersen, who becomes ECB qualified at the end of the summer, fired 149 not out from just 106 balls, with eight sixes and 14 fours.

His power show saw him score his second 50 from only 28 balls and he later moved to 149 from a further 20 deliveries, adding five sixes and two fours.

Bicknell had compiled 19 fours and two sixes in making 139 at a run-a-ball, when he skied acting skipper James Kirtley to mid on.

Kirtley, who earlier sent back Russell Warren for 15, finished with 2-67 from ten overs, while Innes' eight overs cost 91 for the wicket of Anurag Singh.
