The past few days have once again proved how bad our road infrastructure is in this part of Sussex.

The recent accident at the Beddingham crossing caused the usual jams and almost gridlock. The situation would have been even worse in summer.

You do not have to be a transport expert to realise the situation can never be cured with the road structure we have.

When there is a serious accident on the A259 or the A27 it is chaotic and dangerous, with emergency services having difficulty getting to the scene.

With extra house-building being forced upon us and the obvious further increase in traffic, it can only reduce our quality of life.

The pressure on our water and other services will also be at breaking point. What will it be like for our children and future generations?

John Prescott and this government, which consists mostly of Scottish Ministers and MPs, seem not to understand the real problems we have on the coastal strip between Brighton and Eastbourne.

Every effort should be made to stop all new building projects in the area immediately.
