Developers of a major seafront site are working with trade unionists to provide model conditions and training for hundreds of building workers.

Heather James, a spokesman for Karis, told a Learning and Skills Council south-east construction conference the firm was determined to provide top-class working conditions for a major project.

Karis has been chosen by Brighton and Hove City Council to develop the King Alfred Leisure Centre site.

Ms James said: "We will insist all our contractors abide by this agreement through a legal contract and we will work with the unions to monitor and ensure the agreement delivers."
