Dame Anita Roddick is calling on Tony Blair to order a full, independent inquiry into the war in Iraq.

The Body Shop founder joined Brighton-based campaign group Our World Our Say to demand the Government fully outlines its reasons for supporting the pre-emptive strike on Saddam Hussein's regime.

Accompanied by a cross-party group of MPs, Dame Anita was today delivering to 10 Downing Street a petition signed by 50,000 people not satisfied with the justification given for invading Iraq a year ago.

She has also penned an open letter to the Prime Minister on behalf of Our World Our Say which says: "Like many people, we are deeply concerned about the justifications given for going to war.

"Specifically, questions remain regarding the intelligence given on the existence of weapons of mass destruction, their ability to be deployed within 45 minutes, about the serious threat posed to Britain by Saddam Hussein's regime and about supposed links between Saddam and al Qaida."

Dame Anita described the Hutton Inquiry as a "whitewash" and said the one to be led by Lord Butler has a "limited remit".

She said: "These have not answered any of the key questions the public is asking and have further undermined the public's faith in getting real answers as to why we went to war."

To praise the war for ousting a brutal dictator was hypocritical and inconsistent.

She was being joined at 10 Downing Street by Peter Ainsworth, Conservative MP for East Surrey, Bob Marshall-Andrews QC, Labour MP for Medway, Dr Jenny Tonge, Liberal Democrat MP for Richmond Park, and Dr Caroline Lucas, Green MEP for the South-East.
