Campaigners battling developers over what to do with playing fields will discuss their next course of action tomorrow.

The Westdene and Withdean Community Association is seeking financial support for its scheme to return the fenced-off fields to public use.

The 6.5-acre site, off Redhill Close in Westdene, Brighton, is owned by Braybon Holdings, which wants to build 112 low-cost homes for key workers.

Braybon's scheme, presented by architects DMH Planning, was refused planning permission by Brighton and Hove City Council last month.

DMH is likely to appeal.

The association's proposals, for football fields, sports courts and a community centre, have been given permission.

Association members have also met officials from the National Playing Fields Association and the National Lottery to seek funding.

The association will hold an Easter egg hunt in Westdene on April 11.

It will be its first fund-raising event since forming last summer.

The meeting at Westdene Primary School in Bankside, Brighton, is at 8pm.
