Supernatural experts will be showing they "ain't afraid of no ghost" at a creepy computer tournament.

Worthing-based Children Of The City (COTC) Paranormal Investigations, headed by a trio dedicated to investigating mysterious manifestations, will be bidding for the title of the UK's greatest ghost hunter.

The challenge involves occult and paranormal detectives from across the nation playing the latest PlayStation 2 game, Ghost Hunter, in a knock-out tournament, staged in the allegedly haunted Aldwych Tube station in London.

While the team from Worthing normally spend evenings waiting for chilling appearances in graveyards or medieval castles, COTC's co-directors Stacey Logan and Andy Mercer, co-founder Stuart Logan and occult specialist Charles Walker have jumped at the chance to catch some computerised ghouls.

Mrs Logan, 28, of High Street, Tarring, Worthing, who has been hunting ghosts for the past ten years, said she was clairvoyant with the ability to talk to ghosts - which helps during investigations.

She said: "COTC started with my ex-husband Stuart, who I'm still really good friends with. We found we had similar interests in spirits, the paranormal and the supernatural and decided to go out one day and see what we could find.

"We took photos and they co-ordinated with what I was picking up at the time. That sparked our interest and we continued going to places to investigate.

"Three years ago we decided to open up to the public and teach them how to become paranormal investigators. Now we have members all over the country."

The team has documented all their investigations, publishing them on a web site. Photographs featured on www.cotcpi.co.uk depict unexplained wispy lights rising from graves or moving through walls at Durrington Cemetery and South Farm Road Cemetery in Worthing.

Unlike Steven Spielberg's Ghostbusters movie, COTC are not equipped with nuclear-powered backpacks. Instead they favour a range cameras, infra-red temperature detectors, Ouija boards and a gadget to measure electro-magnetic waves.

Mrs Logan said: "The most haunted places we've investigated were at Woodchester Mansion in Gloucestershire and Michelham Priory in Upper Dicker, near Hailsham."

The Ghost Hunter tournament takes place on Wednesday.
