Worthing maintained top spot in the Kent/Sussex Regional League with an impressive 1-0 win away to promotion rivals Blackheath.

Mark Minchell scored the only goal straight from a short corner at the end of the first half.

Joint-skipper John Massie said: "That is the first time we have gone there and won. We have lost 5-2 for the last two years.

"We dominated the first half and started the second well but they slowly started to throw everything at us."

Goalkeeper Daniel Godsmark stood out as Blackheath mounted a late onslaught.

Inconsistent Horsham followed last week's win against leaders Sevenoaks with a 3-2 defeat at bottom side Gillingham Anchorians. Dom Cohen and Ian Brown were the Horsham scorers.

Mid Sussex are now three points adrift at the bottom after losing 6-0 at home to BBHC.

In Kent/Sussex division one, leaders Eastbourne crushed Marden Russets 6-1 thanks to goals from Matt Copping, Alex Barnes, Flo Pietzsch, Dan Williams, Richard Chilcott and Kevin Williams.

Southwick climbed to seventh after a 3-1 win at Crowborough. Adam Forster put the hosts ahead but two penalty strokes from Lee Wiles and a goal from a short corner by Jamie Hendrix settled the contest.

John Morgan and Dom Ford scored as South Saxons drew 2-2 at Cliftonville.

Crawley dropped to the bottom after losing 4-3 at home to Old Bordenians. Scorers were Kris Rai, Gary Hardwick and Anthony Cole.

In the second round of the HA Vase, South Saxons beat Saffron Walden 8-2 thanks to goals from Toby Reed (four), Carl Lewington (three) and Dan Burnett. Eastbourne were awarded a walkover against Royston.

In South Premier division one, Chichester crashed 4-0 to visitors City of Portsmouth.

Horsham slipped four places in Women's South division one after a 4-2 defeat to visitors West Witney. Fran Malam and Susie Clapp replied.
