It was a fine effort by your sports team (Brian Owen, Bruce Talbot and your photographers in particular) to capture the mood of Sussex's remarkable title win in last Friday's edition and again in your eight-page Saturday special.

But it wasn't the greatest effort by your news team for Friday's front-page lead - a glorified planning story featuring, in no particular order, Anthony Worrall Thompson, Sir Rocco Forte and, wait for it, Jayne Torville and Robin Cousins.

None of them comes remotely near the current achievement of some true heroes of Sussex, as witnessed by the standing ovation of a full house at Brighton's match at Withdean on Saturday.

Was "Ice palace" (exclusive or otherwise) the most important story in the county that day? Er. . . I think not.
