I agree with A Tullet and R Wood (Letters, September 20) about the Diego Garcians.
Had the US wanted to take over the Falkland Islands in the 1970s one wonders what the British Government would have done.
As things stand, treating the few Diego Garcians as a problem is completely missing the point.
They represent a community of 5,000 or so people who need our help in rebuilding their lives.
While I do not agree with J Hall that we should treat this as America's problem and simply send people across another ocean, I do believe America must play a large part in providing a solution.
After all, they currently have the island home this community has been deprived of.
If we cannot find a solution the UN should be involved as an arbitrator.
