A Sussex-based charity has gone through a change of name and image.

Horsham-based Action Research will now be called Action Medical Research and has a new slogan, "Give and let live".

Along with the new name, the charity has introduced a distinctive logo featuring a blue button with the slogan underneath.

Paddington Bear will remain the charity's fund-raising mascot, as does its goal of improving health and quality of life through medical research.

The charity was founded more than 50 years ago and is behind some of Britain's greatest medical breakthroughs, including the UK polio vaccine, ultrasound scanning in pregnancy, the artificial hip operation and discovering the link between folic acid and spina bifida.

In the last 18 months the charity has helped identify the faulty gene that causes a form of cleft palate and developed a new way of diagnosing Alzheimer's disease.

Chief executive Simon Moore said: "Our new name emphasises what we do, while giving us that all-important continuity with our past.

"We want to build on our remarkable track record. Now people will immediately see what we do and I'm sure they will be keen to join us in supporting vital medical research."
