Our round-up of the best gigs in Sussex this week include hip hop gurus Jungle Brothers and the atmospheric Heather Nova.

HEATHER NOVA, Concorde 2, Brighton, Sept 15. The name of Nova's game is simplicity as she takes great care to write, record and mix her atmospheric music in the most natural way. Her fifth album, Storm, was released on September 8 and recorded with the background accompaniment of tree frogs amid bad weather conditions. Starts 8pm, tickets £10. Call 01273 772770.

LES FLAMES, Freebutt, Brighton, Sept 16. There seems to be confusion about whether this six-piece is made up of Frenchmen from Leeds or Yorkshiremen from Paris. They have been compared to The Hives and trailed round the UK with The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster, The Soledad Brothers and The Parkinsons. Starts 8pm, tickets £3/£2.50. Call 01273 603974.

JUNGLE BROTHERS, Concorde 2, Brighton, Sept 17. Hailed as the innovators of hip hop's golden age, this trio honed their craft by playing the late Eighties underground rap scene before producing what are now considered to be hip hop classics, the albums Straight Out the Jungle and Done By the Forces of Nature. Made up of friends Nathaniel "Afrika Baby Bam" Hall, "Mike G" Small and DJ Sammy B, the outfit has never been afraid of experimentation. 9pm, £10. 01273 772770.

VIOLA WILLS, Joogleberry Playhouse, Brighton, Sept 18. Best known for her disco revival of Patience And Prudence's Gonna Get Along Without You Now in 1979, this diva was discovered by Barry White in his pre-stardom days and went on to work with Smokey Robinson, George Benson and Joe Cocker. Her one-woman cabaret act has developed a loyal and camp following in the USA. Starts 8pm, tickets £6 in advance, £8 on the door. Call 01273 687171.
