Albion defender Paul Watson has suffered a setback in his fight for fitness.

Injections and special insoles have failed to clear up the foot problems which have plagued Watson since pre-season.

The rightback has missed the last three matches with tendon trouble in the arches of both feet.

Boss Steve Coppell revealed: "He had an injection in one foot and that appeared to be fine.

"He had another one on Friday and we were anticipating that would have the same effect and both of them would be fine by Monday.

"He came in and trained and both of them were sore, so we are at a little bit of a loss now.

"It's amazing how a little niggle from pre-season has persisted all the way through."

Darius Henderson (groin), Danny Cullip (calf) and Richard Carpenter (back) all missed training yesterday as a precaution ahead of Saturday's visit to Colchester.

The match at Layer Road launches a hectic schedule of seven League and Carling Cup games in 22 days, so Coppell is adopting a safety first policy.

Henderson has failed in his bid to be credited with Albion's first goal in last month's home victory over Luton.

Ref Phil Crossley has confirmed to the club it was an own goal by Luton defender Chris Coyne.
