Mike Auger won the South Coast Classic Triathlon at Seaford on Sunday by a convincing margin.

The 21-year-old from Norfolk came home more than three minutes ahead of his nearest rival, Michael Cornes, in the Elite race which featured 15 of the top triathletes in the country.

Swim specialist Auger completed the gruelling course, made up of a 1,500m swim in the sea, a 40km cycle and a 10km run, in a time of 1 hour, 53 minutes and 32 seconds.

Birmingham University student Cornes, 23, was second in 1:56.58 with Phil Wesoby third in 1:57.41.

Sarah Hartshorn won the womens' race by more than two minutes from Alice Hector. The 28-year-old from Bath crossed the line in 2:03.28 with Hector, 21, finishing in 2:06.02.

The Elite race was the highlight of a full weekend of triathlon races for competitors of varying abilities held at Seaford.

It is the fifth year the South Coast Classic has been held but the first since switching venue from Brighton to Seaford.

Organiser Vic Bickerton hailed the move as a complete success with more than 1,500 people taking part over the two days.

He said: "We were reluctant to leave Brighton but the course was not big enough to cope with the number of people entering. Seaford was the perfect alternative and plenty of spectators turned out to cheer the competitors along."

Tri London dominated proceedings at Sunday's South East Region Triathlon Relay Championships at Southwater Country Park, winning both senior titles and the mixed event.

The event consisted of a 400m lake swim, 18.5km cycle and 3.8km two-lap run.

The men's team lead from gun to tape, winning in a time of 2:35.04 from 7oaks Tri Club (2:35.54) and host club, Amphibians II (2:38.27).

The senior women's race was a keenly contested affair with Deal Tri (3:13.51) and Crystal Palace (3:14.36) swapping the lead before the girls from Tri London (3:11.51) hit the front on the final leg.

The mixed event was also won by Tri London to complete a great day for the club.

Brighton Phoenix (2:46.01) were victorious in the male veterans race holding off the teams from Amphibians II (2:47.15) and Spelthorne (2:48.09), while Thames Valley Triathletes (3:16.17) won the female veterans title from Brighton Phoenix (3:21.00) and Steyning (3:26.05).

The male junior race was won by Tuff Fitty (3:12.07) from Littlehampton as 125 teams competed in perfect conditions.
