A cross-party delegation was today heading to London to confront Post Office chiefs about controversial plans to axe a further three post offices in Eastbourne.

The announcement comes on top of the proposed and hotly-contested axing of the Upperton Road branch.

Uproar has greeted Post Office Ltd's latest bid to cut costs, with petitions, demos and letters of objection being prepared to force a rethink.

A high-powered group, led by Eastbourne Tory MP Nigel Waterson, was travelling to London to quiz Post Office chiefs on their proposals.

The company, which is struggling against multi-million-pound losses, has insisted the closures would improve the long-term prospects of other nearby branches.
