Lewes maintained their position at the top of the Division One table after a comfortable victory at Tooting and Mitcham.

Marc Whiteman led them home by completing a hat-trick.

The home side had two good chances in the opening 20 minutes, most notably when Steve Darlington found himself clean through but fired over, and the Rooks made them pay for their profligacy.

On 29 minutes, Whiteman scored a fine opener, latching on to a through ball and twisting and turning before rifling a low left foot shot past Tommy Dunn.

Six minutes later he claimed an even better second, when his pace and strength took him clear of the Tooting defence.

Luke Fontana added his sixth of the season just before the interval.

The second half was an altogether calmer affair, although Justin Harris marked his return to the side after serious injury by winning a 90th minute penalty.

Whiteman converted it to complete his hat trick.
