A Victorian hotel that has been restored at a cost of more than £1 million has missed out on a prestigious award.

Organisers of Worthing Borough Council's Distinction in Building Award said they had not received a nomination for the Burlington Hotel in Marine Parade.

Council spokesman Richard Small said work was still continuing on the historic building when sites were being put forward but it may well be eligible for next year's award.

Cast metal plaques and certificates will be presented to the winners by Worthing Mayor James Doyle at a ceremony in the town hall tomorrow.

Councillor Doyle said "Having visited the shortlisted sites myself as a member of the development control committee, I am delighted to be able to honour the award-winning works.

"The large number of winners reflects the high standards that are being achieved in Worthing, both in new design and in restoration of our building heritage."
