Businesses in Hove's popular George Street shopping area have launched a graffiti-busting initiative.

Traders are being offered free cleaning kits in an effort to give the area a facelift.

They are keen to wipe unsightly tags from local buildings and streets in time for a French market on August 30 and 31.

Eight clean-up kits have been bought by Hove Business Association (HBA) and Brighton and Hove City Council.

They are available free to local traders whose shops have been targeted.

Keith Bryden, HBA chairman, said: "They contain different types of cleaning solution and are very effective against all types of graffiti.

"We want to get Hove looking spic-and-span before the French market returns to George Street.

"People are looking forward to it and have been asking when it will return after it was dropped last year."

The kits are available from Bryden's DIY, Blatchington Road, Florian the Florist in Western Road and Lawrence Art Supplies in Portland Road.
