Renowned peace campaigner Bruce Kent is to address Worthing's second annual anti-war day.

He will tell a public meeting organised by activists Worthing Against War on August 30 of his opposition to the military action in Iraq.

He said: "The only legal justification for the recent war against Iraq would have been that this country was under such immediate threat from Iraq as to justify pre-emptive military action.

"Failing evidence of such a threat and lacking authorisation for the UN Security Council, the war was illegal and the resulting deaths the consequence of criminal acts.

"The debate as to whether Tony Blair misled Parliament is a secondary issue."

Mr Kent will speak at the Friends Meeting House, Mill End, on August 30 at 2pm. He will be followed by a performance of Bush On Trial, a drama by the Court Jesters.

A collection will be held for Medical Aid for Palestine.

The anti-war day will start with a meditation at 11.30am and a peace picnic and stalls from noon until 2pm.
