Sussex's Anglican Church should ditch its imagery of the Crucifixion and attract non-churchgoers with a more touchy-feely approach, say marketing experts.

Such a revolutionary idea is bound to send tea cups flying at Brighton's crisis-hit churches.

Reform is a difficult process in any institution and will be doubly so in one where young blood is in such short supply.

But as Church leaders facing ever-smaller flocks consider the closure of more than a dozen churches, including the parish centres of Brighton and Hove, it is clear that the only option not open to them is to do nothing.

Changing a cross for a goldfish bowl isn't going to save Brighton and Hove's churches but it is a pragmatic approach and one which could help.
