Albion sent a strong reserve side to Eastbourne Borough last night for a testimonial honouring long serving defender Darren Baker.

A crowd of more than 800 saw Albion held to a 1-1 draw.

The Seagulls started brightly and took the lead on ten minutes.

Dan Beck's cross from the left took a wicked deflection off Borough defender Stuart Playford, skied over goalkeeper Lee Hook and dropped inside the far post.

Baker prevented a second moments later, producing a fine saving tackle inside the area.

Daren Pearce and Steve Yates had Borough's best first half chances but they were both denied by Albion goalkeeper Ben Roberts.

The Dr Martens League premier division newcomers had the better of the game after the interval.

Former Albion striker Scott Ramsay had a chance to level but shot straight at Roberts having been put clear.

Shaun Wilkinson forced a fine save from Borough's substitute keeper Paul Stark at the other end.

Borough equalised on 65 minutes when Yates was pulled down in the box and Ramsay slammed home the resulting penalty.

Stark made a point blank save to deny Adam Virgo, and also tipped Daniel Marney's effort round the post as Albion fought back.

But both defences held firm and the draw was a fair result.

Baker, 28, who has made almost 550 appearances for Langney Sports and Eastbourne Borough, said: "It's a brilliant way to finish my testimonial year. It was a great game and a great turn- out on a damp night. I was made up."
