Tim Ambrose has picked up a Twenty20 Cup wicketkeeping award, despite missing a sitter.

The Sussex star won £1,500 as statistically the top glove man in the group stages.

Ambrose took eight catches and scored 108 runs in the Sharks' five games.

Leicestershire's Paul Nixon, once linked with a move to Sussex, was his closest challenger with 102 runs and five dismissals.

Ambrose made sure of top spot with three catches in Tuesday's win over Kent, having put down a simple chance off the bowling of James Kirtley in only the second over.

Robin Martin-Jenkins was third best all-rounder with 105 runs and eight wickets.

One more wicket would have guaranteed him a £1,000 prize.

Jason Lewry came joint fourth in the list of wicket takers with nine, four behind winner Adam Hollioake of Surrey.

Sussex coach Peters Moores, formerly the team's wicketkeeper, said; "It's a brilliant effort by Tim. He has kept really well and his batting has gone better since we moved him down the order.

"He would have been disappointed to drop that chance but he has taken some really good catches.

"We're lucky to have Tim and Matt Prior, two good young wicketkeepers. Matty was probably our best fielder in the Twenty20."

Ambrose keeps the gloves for the Championship game with Warwickshire at Hove, starting today (11am).
