I have always admired anybody who can work with and help terminally ill patients in a hospice or hospital (The Argus, June 24).

Jo Harrison's story was very interesting to read and gave readers an insight into the work of management and staff at the Martlets Hospice in Hove.

Jo does various jobs, from manning the nurses' reception desk to being a bereavement counsellor.

All that is done on a voluntary basis. Jo is one of 500 volunteers the Martlets needs to run the hospice itself and its various outlets. All of them are important and invaluable workers.

I am sure relatives of patients at the Martlets or those who attend the day centre are most grateful for all the help and time given by volunteers.
