Simon Rodger is ready to sign the new one-year contract offered by Albion.

The 31-year-old midfielder, just back from holiday in Portugal, said: "I want to get it all tied up. I'm happy with the terms I have been offered and I'm keen to sign."

The Argus revealed last week that boss Steve Coppell had offered the Shoreham-born playmaker a fresh deal after re-signing him from Crystal Palace on a short-term contract last season.

Rodger said: "I've not really contemplated looking elsewhere. I don't want to move away.

"My wife has got a good job down here and I have always wanted to stay at Brighton.

"It was just a question of finding out if Steve was staying."

Rodger, who also played under Coppell at Manchester City, was a leading figure in Albion's fight for First Division survival last season despite a broken toe.

"I just want us to get back up into the First Division," he said.

"I've never played in the Second Division before, so it will be interesting to see what it is like.

"Hopefully we will bounce straight back up. We've got a decent squad and if he (Coppell) can add a few more players we will give it one helluva bash."

Coppell is waiting to hear from former Wimbledon centre half Dean Blackwell.

He has also been offered a new one-year contract.
