To most people the word "bath" evokes images of a soak in a nice warm tub, with soothing bubbles and a glass of something nice.

To the people of Adur, bathtime means a walk down a river bank, an energetic afternoon rowing and probably a wallow in the mud as well.

Each year teams of stalwarts leap into cast iron bath tubs and row down the River Adur from Bramber to Shoreham in a race against the elements and each other, all with the aim of having fun and raising funds for local charities.

Organisers are asking for entries to this year's Adur Bath Tub Race and for help transporting one of the tubs from Worthing.

Roger Sharman, of the Shoreham and Southwick Round Table, said: "We are all praying for better weather this year.

"Last year's storms were amazing and everyone got thoroughly soaked but the teams still managed to raise £8,850, which was all given to local charities at Christmas."

The race takes place on July 12 with cups awarded to the most topical tub and the best novelty tub.
