David Lee is resigned to reporting back for pre-season training with Albion next week after missing out on a move to Cambridge United.

The out-of-favour midfielder has failed in his bid to reach a financial settlement with the Seagulls over the year left on his contract and that has scuppered his proposed switch to the Third Division club.

The Argus revealed last month that Lee wanted Albion to pay him off so he could join Cambridge on a one-year deal.

"My agent kept ringing but nobody got back to him," Lee said.

"John Taylor, the Cambridge manager, couldn't offer me the money I am on now and he couldn't wait any longer.

"I am a bit disappointed. I'll just come back pre-season and try to do well. It looks like that is what is going to happen now."

Lee, 23, has rejected the offer of a second trial from Yeovil following a spell with the League newcomers last season.

"Yeovil wanted me to go down there for pre-season training but I am not too keen on that," he said.

"I would sign for them but I don't want to go on trial again. It's a difficult situation really.

"I've got to get my head down, get a good pre-season behind me and see where I go from there."

Lee, loaned out to Bristol Rovers last season, has not started a match for the Seagulls since Peter Taylor signed him from Hull in a swap deal with Matthew Wicks in January 2002.
