I was one of the 27,000 riders who paid £20 to ride and have the pleasure of raising £2 million plus for the British Heart Foundation on Roger Lee's "nightmare" day (Letters, June 19).

If my bike made a hole in the road, it was not very deep. Mr Lee's car "alone" does more damage to the roads over the year than we might have done on Sunday.

But I do apologies for holding him up for one hour. Born 1929, I left home at 2.30am and got back at 1.30pm.

Had I known that Mr Lee was so distressed, I would have carried my wife's wheelchair so I could push him home. Poor soul.
