I read Mr Lee's provocative comments about the London to Brighton cycle ride with interest.

What he obviously fails to appreciate is that an event of this kind, which was thoroughly enjoyed by thousands of people, encourages people to take up cycling which, in turn, eases congestion and reduces road damage.

Does he fail to appreciate the revenue brought to the city by 27,000 people coming for a day out?

Maybe if Mr Lee abandoned his car for the 15-minute ride he takes and cycled instead, that would improve the city's roads for the rest of us.
