When a centre is under threat people are often told to use it or lose it.
Because not enough took that advice, the flexible learning centre at Connaught Road in Hove will shut at the end of next month.
About 200 students are registered to use the learning centre for drop-in study.
Some of them are upset they will now have to move to a similar centre at City College in Brighton.
It will undoubtedly be more inconvenient for people living in West Hove who use public transport.
But City College can hardly be blamed for keeping open the centre in Hove when it has not proved viable.
The base in Brighton is better used and has much more back-up provided by the college.
This story should serve as a warning to other people about any centre which is not being used enough. If they don't turn up it will shut for good.
