A pecial clinic set up to administer single vaccinations against measles, mumps and rubella could return to Sussex after a successful first visit.

About 45 children were given jabs at the Holistic Health Centre in Brighton on Sunday as an alternative to the controversial MMR vaccine.

David, 50, and Sandra Hodgkyns, 31, had a three hour drive from Bournemouth to attend the clinic with their only son Ryan, who is 13 months old.

Mr Hodgkyns said: "It should be down to the individual how their child is immunised. With so much talk about the side effects of the MMR vaccine, it is just not a risk we are willing to take.

"Going all the way to Brighton was worth it for the peace of mind. It was, as it should be, a personal choice."

The Government insists the MMR jab is safe and single inoculations are not offered on the NHS. But parents are concerned there is a link between the vaccine and autism and Crohn's disease.

The clinic was organised by Health Choice UK and bosses say it may return to Sussex.

Parents can pay up to £240 in total for the single jabs.

Director Kathryn Durnford said: "The weekend's outreach clinic was a great success. We came to Brighton because of sheer demand from parents.

"The triple vaccine is safe for the majority of children, but some have suffered unexplained side effects, so parents are understandably seeking a safer route."
