Brighton and Hove City Council is to query a controversial decision made by neighbouring Adur District Council.

Last month Adur planners approved a peat terminal with processing on the site of the old Brighton B power station in Southwick.

Among those who objected to the scheme were celebrity residents of Western Esplanade, Hove, such as Sir Paul McCartney and Fatboy Slim Norman Cook.

The city council is worried about a condition attached to the approval to ensure the majority of heavy lorries pass along Trafalgar Road and Church Road in Portslade.

This is a residential road but is popular with traffic leaving the port to reach the A27 Brighton bypass.

City council officials will contact their opposite numbers in Adur to object to the proposal.

They will also see if the city has a basis for making a legal challenge to the condition.
