Pars, bogeys and birdies will bring in the pounds and pennies during a charity golf day.

Players of all abilities are invited to take part in The Argus Appeal Charity Team Golf Competition at East Brighton Golf Club on July 21.

Organisers are looking for 40 teams of four people, with entry costing £200 per team and all proceeds going to dozens of good causes in and around Sussex.

Phil Graves, of Graves Jenkins commercial and retail estate agents, organises an annual charity Pro Am golf day and was delighted to help The Argus Appeal.

He said: "Over the last four or five years we have raised something approaching £20,000 for various good causes.

"Raising money is close to my heart and I thought it was a great idea when I was asked to do something for The Argus Appeal."

The tournament is open to any standard of golfer.

Mr Graves said the £200 entry money offered superb value for what would be a great day out.

He said: "All we are asking for is a reasonable amount of money, which includes some really good hospitality from the club and the chance to win excellent team and individual prizes.

"The top ten out of the 40 teams will be prize winners and there is a raffle as well so hopefully a lot of people will come away with something.

"Our target is to get £5,000, which will go a long way. It's great we can enjoy ourselves during the day and help other people at the same time."

The Argus Appeal has helped hundreds of people over the years by making sure money raised for good causes gets spent where it matters most.

Last year, fund-raisers collected £125,000 for dozens of charities.

Among other things, the appeal has paid for vulnerable families to take a much-needed holiday and bought or part-funded a number of minibuses which have proved invaluable to various groups across the county.
