A man who appeared in court to face his 64th charge of driving while disqualified has been jailed.

Glen Rennie pleaded guilty to the latest charge when he appeared at Worthing Magistrates Court yesterday.

Kirsten Sharp, prosecuting, said: "He has 63 other convictions for the same offence. This is the worst list of previous convictions I have ever seen.

"Frankly it is easy to lose count because he has a 25-page record."

The court was told that Rennie, 27, from Gosport, Hampshire, is now serving time in Winchester prison for the same offence.

Anthony Corcoran, defending, said: "He says he will never do it again. He is now back in contact with his kids and that will help concentrate his mind."

The court heard that on July 6, police stopped Rennie in a Ford Granada in Albion Street, Southwick.

At first he gave a false name and date of birth but later confessed and said he was not allowed to drive.

Magistrates told Rennie they had no alternative but to jail him for four months.

The sentence will start when his current term of imprisonment finishes.

Magistrate Ruth Andrew said: "You have blatantly disregarded every court order not to drive whilst you are disqualified.

"I hope this will deter you where other previous custodial sentences have not."

Rennie was also disqualified from driving for two years. He received no extra penalty for driving without insurance.
