Supermarket chain Asda is to offer shoppers free tests for diabetes this week.
In a bid to help find the estimated a million people who have diabetes but do not know it, 82 outlets with pharmacies will offer the tests to shoppers.
Customers can opt for a pin-prick test to establish blood sugar levels. Those with high blood sugar will be advised to see their GPs.
With 11 million customers a week, up to 250,000 of Asda's customers could have undiagnosed diabetes and its offer of a free test could literally be a life saver, said a spokeswoman.
