Pop princess Kylie Minogue helped raise almost £1,300 in memory of a victim of the Bali bomb blast.

The chart-topping singer donated three signed albums to be raffled at an event organised by friends and relatives of 28-year-old Daniel Braden, who was killed in the explosion last October.

The Encompass Trust was set up in honour of the former Brighton College deputy head boy, to promote better understanding between people of different cultural backgrounds.

Live performers including the band Boxer and singer Eva played at last night's event at the Hanbury Ballroom in St George's Road, Brighton.

About 135 people attended and £450 was raised by the raffle alone. The final total raised was £1,285.23.

Daniel's sister Claire Braden said: "It was a great night. The music was wonderful and a lot of people turned out to support Encompass."

Jun Hirst, Daniel's fiance, said: "Dan would have been up and dancing for sure. He would have loved it. It was a very 'Dan' night.

"Everyone seemed to have a good time and there was a great atmosphere. We were a bit nervous because it was our first fund-raising event but you could never have guessed it was a Sunday night."

Daniel, whose family lives in Brighton, was in the Sari night club with members of his rugby team, the Taipei Baboons, when the bomb went off, killing more than 180 people.

The trust is organising a series of cruises made up of students from different cultural backgrounds, including Muslims, Hindus and Christians from Indonesia and Britain.

The first cruise is due to set sail from Waterford on July 22, ending in Portsmouth on August 3.
