Former Albion striker Paul Kitson is being linked with a move to the Seagulls' Second Division rivals Chesterfield.
Kitson, who was snapped up by former Albion manager Martin Hinshelwood last August to partner Bobby Zamora, was released by Coppell at the end of the season after injuries restricted the ex-West Ham marksman to seven full appearances.
Chesterfield boss Roy McFarland is lining him up as his first signing on a pay-as-you-play basis.
Meanwhile, Zamora is not expected to be in the starting line-up tonight for the England under-21-s in their European Championship qualifier against Slovakia at the Stadium of Light.
David Platt will stick with West Ham's Jermain Defoe and Newcastle's Shola Ameobi up front after playing Zamora out of position on the left side of midfield in last week's friendly against Serbia and Montenegro.
