A man is recovering in hospital after he was attacked in a Hove street early today.
The victim, who has not been named, suffered non-life threatening head injuries and was being treated at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.
He was in Davigdor Road when he was approached by another man outside the Palmeira pub at 2.30am.
The victim was asked for a cigarette and was attacked when he refused to hand one over.
He was found semi-conscious and bleeding a few minutes later.
