Shepherd Neame Sussex League: Lewes Priory remain top of division two despite suffering their first defeat of the season at home to Sidley.

But it is desperately close at the top with just 18 points separating the top six.

Priory thought they were in control after dismissing the visitors for just 115.

Imran Javed top scored with 68 as Chris Baker took 4-20 and Imran Khan 3-31.

But Lewes tumbled to 80 all out as the Pakistani paceman Javed returned figures of 6-25.

South African Mark Johnson (44) and Sam Chettlebrough (43) led St James to 171 all out at home to Roffey for whom Dave Liley took 4-40 and Mark Jefferson 4-49.

But Roffey found batting a problem and collapsed to 99 all out as Andy Wellfare took 4-18 to give his side victory by 72 runs.

Bowlers had the upper hand at Fulking where Preston Nomads beat Bexhill by 21 runs in a low-scoring game.

Nomads owed much to Colin Edmonds who made 47 in a total of 119 all out. Matt Blackman (5-25) and Alan Cowley (3-16) did the damage.

But Nomads sent the visitors packing for just 98 with Ian Jones taking 4-10 and Graeme Watson 3-31. But their efforts were still not good enough to lift their side off the bottom of the table.

Littlehampton rattled up 242-9 declared at Cuckfield with Andy Northcotes making 59, Darren Mathura 46 and Steve Kirkham 35. For the home side, off-spinner Jon Lamley (5-91) was the pick of the bowlers and there were two wickets each for Stephen Booth and Rod Candfield.

Jonathan Goodwin (75), Tom Mole (44) and Jason Oates (31) gave Cuckfield some hope but they finished holding out for a draw at 197-9.
