Brighton and Hove men's team won their match and are the only Sussex team in line for possible promotion.

They were involved in a division three match at Barn Elms and did well in track events including a whitewash in the sprints where an Brooker, in the A races, and Andy Thompson, in the B events, both clocked fast times.

Both improved their personal bests in the 100m and 200m, with Brooker clocking 11.0sec and 22.3sec, and Thompson 11.1sec and 22.5sec.

Thompson also won the long jump (6.72m).

Worthing and District Harriers, were second behind British League club Shaftesbury Barnett in their division one match at home.

Paul Gilding notched up a fine double in the 110m hurdles (15.0sec), to equal his personal best, and jumped 1.90m to win the high jump.

Hastings were second behind promotion-chasing Tonbridge in their division two match.

Most impressive performance came from Gavin Selway, who is still in the under-17 age group. He was an impressive winner of the 400m (50.7sec), a time that could take him to the All England Schools Championships at Sheffield in July.

Crawley are the only Sussex team in division one of the Southern Women's League.

Despite the absence of star sprinter Carley Wenham and 800m runner Charlotte Best, they were third which should lift them out of the relegation zone.

Dannielle Christmas was an excellent deputy for Best, winning the 800m in a personal best 2min.14.3sec and the B 400m in another personal best of 57.9sec. Elaine Wells won the A race in 57.8sec.

Three Sussex clubs are in division two and Hastings, with two fifth placings in previous matches, improved to fourth. But Horsham Blue Star and Brighton and Hove, both missing leading athletes, struggled in fifth place.

There were few Sussex winners in these division two matches but Holly Weaver did win the pole vault (2.40m) for Brighton and Hove at Thurrock.
