There are real problems with boy racers and cruising clubs in Madeira Drive, Brighton, many nights of the week.

Cars are being driven at up to 100mph along a road which is also used by people spilling out of nightclubs and by those simply trying to enjoy evening strolls by the sea.

No wonder there has been a series of smashes, which have involved serious injury and even death.

Brighton and Hove City Council puts in temporary barriers when it knows there is going to be trouble.

But this does not stop small local gatherings and the barriers take time to install.

Now the council is being recommended to install gates at either end and put speed humps in the road.

These should stop the cruisers once and for all.

The sooner the gates and humps are in place the better. Lives will be saved as a result.
