A Tesco van was in a collision with a woman's car as the driver delivered her online order.

Linda Russell has made an insurance claim after her £12,000 luxury car was damaged in the incident as she received her weekly internet shop.

She has accused the driver of hitting her car three times as he tried to leave her driveway in Royal George Road, Burgess Hill.

Mrs Russell was perfectly happy with her order from the Tesco internet site but did not expect to see the delivery driver in a collision with her Lexus car.

She claims he reversed three times into the car, which belonged to her late husband.

She was trying to sell the vehicle, which she said her aircraft engineer husband, who died suddenly earlier this year, had meticulously maintained.

She said: "I watched as the van continually smashed into the car as it reversed up the driveway. I shouted out, 'Stop, stop, stop', but the van driver kept on reversing into the car.

"Then he got out and apologised, saying he was trying to reverse in the driveway but thought he was hitting the kerb each time.

"He gave me details of how to make a claim and said, 'Don't worry, Tesco will sort it out.'"

Her daughter, Debbie, 31, has been helping her to get the insurance claim sorted out.

She said "I have been pushed from pillar to post. Nobody seems to accept responsibility.

"We have managed to take it to a local garage, where the bonnet and bumper will be replaced and resprayed but Tesco has still not admitted responsibility.

"My mother was shocked by what happened as you don't expect to watch a delivery van smash three times into a car in a private driveway."

A spokeswoman for Tesco said: "The matter is being dealt with through our insurance officials."
