Blackboys have opened up a lead at the top of the Cuckmere Valley League following an exciting win over East Dean.

Greg Dann claimed 5-34 as Blackboys restricted East Dean to 129-8 from their 40 overs, Mike Bush top-scoring with 50.

Gary Funnell hit 31 in reply but Blackboys only clinched victory in the last over with two wickets to spare thanks in the main to 20 not out from Chris Turner batting at No. 10.

There are five teams locked on ten points, four points behind the leaders. Among them are Firle who beat reigning champions Alfriston by 38 runs.

Richard Ellinor (94) and Chris Gape (48) helped Firle post 208-4. Lee Poulton hit 41 in reply and Tim Hurst 39 not out but Alfriston could only manage 170-6.

There were two centurions in the top division including Russell Piper who scored 108 not out as Withyham made 195-5 away to Burwash Weald. Phil Adams added 30 while Nicky Padgham's 2-26 was the pick of the bowling.

John Sullivan hit an unbeaten 40 in reply but Burwash were dismissed for 110 with Adams claiming 4-19.

Dominic Bowen hammered 106 and Chris Beasleigh added 61 in eight overs as Bells Yew Green amassed 296-8 against Denton. Davy Milne's 5-33 was the pick of the bowling.

Denton had a go at reaching their target but they closed on 255-8, Dave Ellis scoring 59 and Milne 35.

Division two: Caburn 111-5 (D. Osbourne 44) beat Laughton 108 (T. Crook 40, Finlay 6-15); Bells Yew Green II 238-7 (Cleave 78, Tapp 63) lost to Nutley 245-5 (Sean Fuller 57, Mark Reed 54); Isfield 193 (Jim Healey 60) beat Firle II 119; Withyham II 68 (Defreitas 5-16) lost to Preston Village 187-6 (S. Pullinger 61).
