Athlete Sally Gunnell will be joining thousands of women in Sussex to raise money for charity.

The former Olympic star is one of many people to sign up for this year's Cancer Research UK Race for Life in Brighton.

All proceeds will help pay for research into the causes and treatment of cancer and Sally, who lives in Steyning, is hoping tens of thousands of pounds will be raised.

She said: "Race for Life is truly unique. It is absolutely wonderful to join thousands of women across the country in such a fun and relaxed event, whilst helping to raise millions of pounds for Cancer Research UK.

"I am extremely proud to be supporting Race for Life in its tenth anniversary year. Everyone knows someone whose life has been touched by cancer and, through Race for Life, we can make a real difference in helping to treat, prevent and cure cancer faster."

More than 130, 5km races are taking place across the UK with events in Brighton, Eastbourne, Crawley and Hastings.

Time is running out for people interested in running in the Eastbourne race.

Entries close a week before the race at Hampden Park, which is on June 1. Girls and women of all ages can take part and people can either walk or run the route.

One of those hoping to take part is Annie Harris, 42, from Hove, who has been involved in the race for the last two years.

She said: "I enjoy doing the race because there is always such a good atmosphere.

"My aunt died from breast cancer so this is a cause which is very important to me."

Other events are at Stanmer Park in Brighton on July 6, Tilgate Park in Crawley on June 4 and Alexandra Park in Hastings on June 29.

Entry is £7.50 or £4.50 for girls under 18. Call 08705 134314 or go to www.raceforlife.or
