Firefighters have rescued Shannon the three-year-old Labrador after she wandered down a sewer pipe and became stuck.
She was trapped in water a meter deep at Hambrook Hill, Hambrook, near Chichester.
A fire brigade spokesman said: "She was very distressed and unable to lift herself back out."
Fire crews removed a protective grille and gently lifted Shannon to safety.
She was shaken and wet but not injured and ran into the arms of her owner.
