Pat Summerfield wonders whether dogs could be trained to use the lavatory (Letters, April 5).

True, they can do some wonderful tricks and so often appear to be more intelligent than the person leading them.

So, why not? One big snag, however, would be trying to find a loo in Brighton and Hove which is not permanently locked up.

I put the question to my two dogs, Poppy and Prince. Prince is effectively known as "Mad Jack".

They think it is a good idea but suggest it might be better to train the winos first, as some of them do not seem to know the difference between a loo and a park.
