A variety show called Variety Spotlight is being held on Saturday, June 21, on behalf of the restoration fund of the Old Shoreham Toll Bridge and readers' help is being requested.

It will be a full variety show in every sense of the word and talent is wanted.

If you can act, sing, dance, play a musical instrument, are a comedian, juggler or magician, please make contact now.

Maybe you're a member of a local choir, drama or dance group; why not have a word with your organiser?

Help is also needed behind the scenes.

The event will be held in the Harper Hall of the Shoreham Centre and the production will be under the professional direction of Phyllis Bush, who has produced many successful charitable events.

The Old Shoreham Toll Bridge, which links Shoreham to Lancing and Worthing, was built across the River Adur in 1781.

Until 1968, the bridge was part of the A27 and even double-decker buses used it.

It was then closed to road traffic and became a public bridleway.

It is a Grade II listed building and many Sussex residents are determined it must not go the same way as the West Pier.

The Chairman of the Adur District Council, Liza McKinney, has chosen the restoration of the Old Shoreham Toll Bridge as her charity and has a goal of £56,000, which would complete the £100,000 the Toll Bridge Community Partnership pledged to raise on April 18, 2001.

Hopefully, the show will generate a substantial sum of money towards the target.
