A dozing commuter spent 45 minutes smashing and kicking his way out of a railway carriage after train company officials locked him in for the night.
Tony Roberts, 28, of St Nicholas Road, Portslade, nodded off on a 23.10 London Bridge-Brighton service only to receive a rude awakening.
He discovered the electric doors of his Thameslink train carriage were firmly shut and all lights were off when he awoke beside a platform at Brighton.
He battered the 7ft-high emergency door release button with a fire extinguisher but was unable to ease the doors open for 45 minutes. Eventually he found a member of the station's night staff to let him out.
Mr Roberts, who works as an IT manager in London, said: "In a way I can see the funny side of it but at the time I was extremely concerned."
A Thameslink spokesman said an investigation into Mr Roberts' complaints was under way.
