The Brighton-based 24 Hour Museum was the only UK institution to win a best of the web prize at the Museums and the Web Conference 2003.

The conference, which was held in North Carolina, is one of the most important events in the calendar of the international museum community.

The museum was named Best E-Services Solution at the award ceremony.

Chairman of the trustees Loyd Grossman said: "We are totally and utterly thrilled. This is an exciting time for online museum and gallery culture and this is an international tribute to the quality and relevance of the 24 Hour Museum."

24 Hour Museum editor Jon Pratty said: "Our virtual trophy cabinet is starting to fill up. We recently won accolades at the Charity and Public Service Publicity Awards and best public information web site at the IVCA/Biznet awards."

The 24 Hour Museum is updated daily and provides information about the UK's great (and small) museums, galleries and heritage sites.
