When the Siemens S55 Mobile Phone arrived on my desk a few days ago, I grabbed it with glee.

Siemens is famous for producing well-made and good-looking toys and the S55 is no exception.

What sets the Siemens S55 apart from other mobile phones is the range of accessories, supplied as standard.

This phone comes with a camera and a hands-free kit and and easy to use user-interface.

If you live for the next ringtone download, then be prepared for a shock as Siemens downloads can be quite hard to find.

The Polyphonic ringtones, which can either be MIDI files or pre-recorded MMF files, sound all right but are horribly distorted at maximum volume.

This phone has a good set of PDA-style functionality with a calendar and a great address book which, according to Siemens, can easily be synchronised with a PC.

Siemens claims it is very easy to import files onto your phone by using IrDA, Bluetooth or the supplied serial cable.

I hit a minor glitch as the phone arrived without any software but frankly, I have no reason to doubt this as the rest of the package worked perfectly.

Although it is a very lovely toy, the S55 is not perfect, with the most obvious complaint being the screen.

Although this is relatively clear and bright, it only offers 256 colours and images do not display well.

This is a shame as the plug-in camera supplied with the S55 is quite good and comes complete with built in flash.

To get the best from S55 images, they must be downloaded on to a PC.

While we are on the list of gripes, the speakerphone is not quite as loud as it might be and the distortion that makes certain ringtones unbearable at maximum volume causes problems with the speakerphone as well.

Overall, if youre looking for a sensible new phone, the Siemens S55, with its excellent feature set and PC data support, is definitely one to look at.
