Firms are losing £158 billion a year through time being wasted by workers, a report claimed today.

Office staff spend almost three hours a day chasing colleagues for overdue information, sifting through trivia on the internet or attending meetings that last longer than necessary.

The cost to UK employers of the "dead time" is £3 billion every week, according to learndirect, the Government's training network.

Research among 500 office staff found most said they felt angry and frustrated at the time wasted.
